Sweet Chestnut Forest, Unterach am Attersee

In Unterach am Attersee, on the slope of the Mondseer Flyschberge can be found in a 3.7513 hectares of red beech forest, a high percentage of sweet chestnuts.

The unique thing is that in no area north of the Alps, the sweet chestnuts reach their full maturity except here in Unterach am Attersee in the beautiful Salzkammergut. The mild climate even thrives on wine.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Josef, a jubilee tree was planted on 18 August 1908.

In autumn everything in Unterach revolves around the chestnut tree and the Unteracher celebrate the chestnut festival with their guests.
