A classic country pub with two roaring log fires, a beer garden, fine ales and traditional pub grub. If you've taken your hound for a jaunt in the surrounding fells, you're in luck: the owners actively encourage you to bring your dog. If staying overnight in Ennerdale, the pub has three spacious en-suite rooms.

St Mary's Church, Ennerdale

Highlight • Historical Site

Designed by Charles Eaglesfield of Maryport, St Mary's is a lovely church. Wordsworth mentions the building in his poem 'The Brothers'.

The church bell dates from before the Reformation and on it is inscribed 'Santa Bega ora pro nobis', which translates to St Bega pray for us. Bega was the pious daughter of an Irish chieftain who fled Ireland for Cumbria to escape a forced marriage to a Norse prince. The St Bega's Way long-distance trail passes by the church on its way to St Bega's church by Bassenthwaite Lake.

Great sight ahead, you can see the clouds covering the mountain tops, slightly below there is a snow capped line. This was November 19th 2024 when the photo was taken, temperature was zero at ride height
