Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Gostkowo

Highlight • Religious Site

Church in Gostków p.w. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is worth seeing because it is beautiful.
It was built at the turn of the 13th and 14th - brick, stone and brick (this is one of the oldest such temples in the area) and had a wooden tower. The brick tower was built in the neo-gothic style in 1925.
The most valuable monument located in the temple is the Madonna from Gostków - a Gothic wooden sculpture made in one of Toruń's workshops in 1420.

The village of Papowo existed already in the early Middle Ages. It is mentioned in 1222 in the act of granting Prince Konrad Mazowiecki to the Prussian bishop Christian. In 1457, Papowo, together with other towns in the former Toruń commandry, was granted to the city of Toruń by King Casimir IV Jagiellon. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the current manor house was built and the manor park was established. The estate (Domäne Papau) was owned by the Elsner family. After World War II, it was taken over by the State Treasury and apartments were created in the manor house, which were used until the first years of the 21st century. Since then, it has remained empty and has fallen into ruin. It is a single-storey manor house, on a rectangular plan, with high cellars. Built of brick on stone and brick foundations and plastered. The hipped roof, currently covered with sheet metal, houses a usable attic and apartments in the gables. The seven-axis front elevation with an entrance in the central axis, preceded by high stairs, formerly enclosed by walls. The 19th-century park layout is now virtually non-existent.
(according to "Polskie Zabytki")
Currently, there is an information board on the front door about the renovation works. Will the manor be saved?

A mini “museum” of old agricultural machinery.

In the yard of his property, the lovely host has collected and saved from the scrapyard a dozen or so old machines. They are not easy to find anymore! It is worth a visit, and the owner will also be happy to exchange a few words with a passing cyclist.
