Gut Quarnbek Manor and Park

The noble Quarnbek estate was first mentioned in 1282. The oldest known owner was a knight Schak Rantzau. The manor house was built as a moated castle in the 16th century. [5] It is shown for the first time on the Rantzau board commissioned by Heinrich Rantzau around 1587, a family tree of the family. [6] The gatehouse was built in 1671 by Hans Henrich von Kielmansegg with a view of the moated castle. He intensified agriculture and ran the dairy farms Dorotheenhof and Mettenhof, so-called Dutch farms, with religious refugees from the Netherlands. [7] In 1733 Desmercières bought the estate [8] and later bequeathed it to his half-sister. It was through them that it came to the Reuss-Köstritz house. The moated castle was demolished at the end of the 18th century. The mansion, built in 1903, is privately owned and not open to the public.
