After the completion of basalt mining in Oberkassel, some of the quarries filled with water. The Dornheckensee is the largest and deepest of them. It goes down to a depth of 20 meters under the water surface. Rock falls and undercurrents make swimming a life-threatening undertaking. A forester was once an eyewitness when an edge broke off and disappeared into the lake together with the oak tree growing on it. There have also been dead people who were caught by undercurrents and could no longer escape the ice-cold deeper water layers. Swimming seems rightly forbidden here!

wonderful round tour, which is mostly flat. Only towards the end of the Vinxel hiking car park was it 7-9% uphill again. Most of the route can also be done by e-bike or MTB. Only at km 8.15 to 8.25 you can only get through on foot. Bypassing is feasible there (see map)

There are actually many viewpoints along the tour, including a skywalk balcony overlooking Dornheckensee lake, Bonn, and the Rhine. Today, everything was slightly misty. There was a surprisingly large amount of snow on the paths and trees. There were an astonishing number of people out and about. We were able to walk safely and easily.
