Spytkowice Castle

The castle was built in the first half of the 16th century by Wawrzyniec Myszkowski, the castellan of Nowy Sącz, in the Gothic-Renaissance style.
It was significantly enlarged and transformed into a magnificent three-winged early baroque residence before 1630 by the bishop of Kraków, Marcin Szyszkowski.
In 1644, the castle passed into the hands of the Opalińskis from Bnin, coat of arms of Łódź. In 1662 it was part of Łukasz Opaliński's property in Spytkowice.
From the beginning of the 19th century to 1945, the castle was owned by the Potocki family.
After the damage that the castle suffered during World War II, the building was rebuilt in the second half of the 20th century, restoring its early baroque appearance.
Currently, the castle is owned by the State Treasury.
In 2000, a branch of the Krakow State Archives was opened.
