From the Middle Ages, a first building participated in the city's defensive system by ensuring control of the gate (one of the main access gates). The L-shaped plan of the current castle bears witness to successive construction campaigns: the 15th century south wing is joined to the 16th century north wing by a square tower, containing a spiral staircase. Château Rouillaud takes its name from a family, linked to the Perrenot de Granvelle, the Mouchet de Château-Rouillaud, who owned the building from 1519 to 1635.
