Verzasca Dam

Highlight • Monument

The Verzasca dam is located at the entrance of the Verzasca Valley, an original and scenic valley two kilometers above Lake Maggiore in the canton of Ticino. The view from the 220 meter high dam wall is an absolute highlight and can be combined with a hike around the Lago di Vogorno.

Director Ian Sharp staged the opening scene of "Goldeneye" with an incredible bungee jump. In the famous scene Pierce Brosnan alias 007 shot an anchor on the roof of a building and then flew 200 meters into the depths. Incidentally, between Easter and October, James Bond can do the same: in the middle of the dam is the highest stationary bungee facility in the world.

View of the Verzasca Dam

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Verzasca Dam is an impressive sight and one of the highest dams in Switzerland, rising 220 metres above the Verzasca Valley. From this vantage point you will have a spectacular view of the dam's imposing concrete wall, which appeared in the opening scene of the James Bond film GoldenEye.

Ponte dei Salti

Highlight • Bridge

The curved bridge with two arches, also known as the Roman bridge, dates back to the Middle Ages. It leads through the emerald green waters of the Verzasca near Lavertezzo, where it cools down perfectly after a long hike.

Verzasca River Trail

Highlight • Trail

Wonderful hiking route along the river with rock formations of absolute beauty. It is a trail very popular with hikers, I recommend a run out of season or in any case avoiding peak times on weekend days.

Alpeggio Ca d Dént

Highlight • Settlement

Fairly runnable paths but there are stairs and steps to be careful of. This upper part offers a beautiful view of the river and the surrounding hills. This set of houses (translated "Inside Houses") have an ancient irrigation and water storage system that demonstrates how much ingenuity and effort it took to live in these places.
