Brülisau-Hoher Kasten cable car since 1964
The cable car to the Hoher Kasten is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Since August 11, 1964, the cable car has reliably transported our guests from Brülisau to the Hoher Kasten and back to the valley.

Typical Appenzell farmhouse

Highlight • Monument

The farmhouse in Appenzell Innerrhoden
The house landscape of Appenzell Innerrhoden is one of the best known and most fascinating. The postcard image of colorful houses on the lush green meadows and the images of Appenzell herdsmen in colorful traditional costumes contribute to this.
The Appenzellerland, which lies on the northern edge of the Alps, is a scattered settlement area. The farm, whose building stands in the middle of the land, is called "Heemed". It reflects the peculiarities of Appenzell agriculture, which was based on commercial dairy farming with a division of labor between hay farmers and herdsmen. The hay farmers owned valley properties with meadows and pastures and mainly produced hay. The herdsmen, on the other hand, owned large herds of cattle.
The Kreuzfirsthaus is considered the Appenzeller house par excellence. The gable-shaped residential building and the eave-emphasized stable barn are united in such a way that the ridges of both parts of the house are at right angles to each other. At the Gadenhaus, the house and stable stand one behind the other, with the ridge in the same direction. The Heidenhaus, which dates back to the 15th/16th century and is only preserved in a few examples, is a special feature of the Appenzell house landscape due to its eaves front.
From around the middle of the 19th century, facade paneling, plank screens, doors, shutters and decorative elements were painted with oil paint. The multi-colored farmhouses with light residential facades and distinctive ochre-colored stables are still very popular today. They are anchored in the rural and alpine folk culture.

Plattenbödeli mountain inn since 1911 at 1284 m above sea level.
Unique landscape in the Alpstein.
1911 - Innkeeper Jos. Anton Dörig "Mattle" (great-grandfather of Platte Hans and grandfather of Meglisalp Mile) bought a piece of land at the exit of the Brüeltobel and built a small guesthouse, which he soon handed over to his daughter Franziska Inauen-Dörig.
1917 - Handed over to daughter Franziska Fritsche-Inauen.
1930 - Alfred Fritsche built the current inn.
1934 - Electric light was used for the first time on the Plattenbödeli, powered by a single-cylinder diesel engine and an Örlikon battery.
1958 - Son Hans and Alice Fritsche-Holderegger bought the business. To remedy the water shortage, a 1000m long pipe was laid from the Alp Rainhütte through the lake. The spring is 60m higher than the Plattenbödeli and thus the water flows into the reservoir with counter pressure. The diesel system was enlarged and a dishwasher and a washing machine were installed.
1964 - The mule track through the Brüeltobel is expanded as a road.
1971 - The kitchen is added, the toilet facilities are converted and the restaurant with a self-service buffet is renovated. The main entrance is moved to the sunny side and the terrace is extended. A separate sewage treatment plant is built and the diesel system is renewed.
2022 - Alois and Manuela Inauen Sager purchase the mountain inn.
