Frauenberg Church (Hengersberg)

Highlight • Religious Site

Southwest of the market square of Hengersberg stands on a dominant hill, the late Gothic, changed in the Baroque Frauenkirche. In the biography of the abbot Godehard (996-1022 abbot, then Bishop of Hildesheim) from the important, located in the immediate vicinity monastery Niederaltaich, is reported in detail on the clearing of the then so - called "Helmgeresberg" on which then a castle together with church or Chapel was built. Here is definitely a round church (rotunda) called and described in more detail, their consecration for the 2nd February 1008 handed down. Thus, we have here the oldest secured sacred date for a church in the district Deggendorf.

St. Erasmus Church Deggenau

Highlight • Religious Site

St. Erasmus is the patron saint of seafarers and shipping. In honor of him, a chapel was built in Deggenau in 1496. In 1857 it was replaced by a new building. In 1965, this was canceled due to dilapidation as part of road construction measures. In 1977 a chapel building association was founded to build a new chapel in the center of the village. The foundation stone was laid in 1981, in 1982 it was consecrated and handed over to its destination. The altarpiece shows the course of the Danube in a stylized form.

Here at this point near the Danube and the old river crossing (ford) there was a village of the Celts about 2000 years ago. The settlement later came into the possession of the Niedermünster nunnery in Regensburg.
In the past, three smaller Romanesque church buildings stood on the site of today's parish church.
