Historic Bridge Pillars Over the Ohře

Today, European Route 6 from Bayreuth to Prague crosses the Ohře River via a modern bridge a little further north. Until the end of World War II, the crossing was here in Pomezí nad Ohří, formerly known as Mühlbach. Shortly before the arrival of the US Army, the bridge was blown up by the Germans. Construction of the Skalka Reservoir began in 1962, and a crossing was no longer possible at this point. At least: At low tide in spring 2023, the two historic bridge pylons were salvaged, then restored and sealed. Since April 2024, they have (almost) returned to their original location.

Here are the remains of a gate tower of 1462 destroyed festivals Markhausen. This is called a "Frankenturm" or "box". After the destruction of the village, the tower was left to decay.
