Narrow path through dense greenery

Highlight • Trail

The disused track bed is very easy to drive on with the MTB and also the gravel bike. It's a lot of fun to drive through the narrow paths

Forst Elm

Highlight • Forest

The Elm forest in the municipality of Garlstedt and thus in the urban area of Osterholz-Scharmbeck is a mixed forest (Elm = old German for elm) in the north-west of the city center between the municipalities of Garlstedt and Huelseberg. A large number of burial mounds from the younger Bronze Age (approx. 1800 - 700 BC) can be found here and the Garlstedter Lure site was also found in the vicinity. Since 1995, the "Langes Holz" forest nature trail has been inviting visitors to take an informative walk in or on the Elm.

After a pine monoculture had existed for decades, in 1987 a start was made on changing the stock of trees to mixed forest with a high proportion of hardwood. For 15 years, more than 100,000 beeches were planted in the Langen Holz and the Elm and 20 hectares of forest were protected over the years with over 20 game enclosures. In 2004 a deciduous wood content of approx. 35% was reached, the aim is around 65%.

Good to ride on a mountain bike. It's nice that you can use it that way. In the end there is something good about the tank track

The armored track built for the US Army at the Lucius-D.-Clay barracks in Garlstedt in the mid-1980s is history. The tracks and sleepers were dismantled, leaving a bare path through the forest. The Harsefeld Forest Office now wants to ensure that nature can recapture at least part of it. At an initial length of 1300 meters, oaks and native shrubs will soon grow close together again.

The second part didn't find one of the turns, or rather, it was all overgrown, and everything on the former railway line was overgrown. Maybe never on gravel with long clothing. Maybe something for autumn, when the nettles and thorn bushes are no longer growing 🤔🥶 so we went back and detoured. Otherwise, OK.
