Descent Near Weißenberg

Highlight • Viewpoint

Here you go down or up quite a bit. There is a panorama board at the top, which shows the sights very nicely. When driving up, you can relax on a bench halfway.

Edelsfeld Fountain

Highlight • Monument

As part of the ongoing village renewal project, the town hall and church forecourt were redesigned and the square was beautified with a fountain. The fountain is in the shape of an ammonite and was designed by the Edelsfeld artist Helen Werner. The bronze cast of the Edelsfeld village fountain gives the church and town hall square a special touch. An information board about the fountain was also installed here.

The Romanesque St. Josephskirchlein, one of the oldest in the entire Amberg-Sulzbach district, lies on a hill above the Lohbach valley and Niederärndt. The Romanesque church dates from the 11th century. It is still the only simultaneous church in the Edelsfeld parish, which means that since 1652 it has been owned in equal parts by the Protestant and Catholic parishes. Already in 1305 the church was mentioned as a branch church of Eschenfelden, which it remained until 1816.

Catholic Chapel of St. Otto

Highlight • Religious Site

The small church of St. Otto is located on the outskirts of Schmalnohe. This little church was dedicated to Saint Martin until the 18th century. When the supposed building from 1722 was renovated in 1969, medieval wall paintings were found under thick plaster, as well as two narrow, bricked-in windows, which point to a much earlier period of origin. It is suspected that in the 8th / 9th Century was founded. When the Upper Palatinate came to Bavaria, the Protestant population was forced to become Catholic in 1628. In 1669 the Michelfeld Monastery took over the pastoral care at the Martinskirche in Schmalnohe. The abbot of the monastery had the old dilapidated chapel torn down and a new one was built on the foundations. When the church was consecrated, it was given the name St. Otto.

Wayside shrine in Schmalnohe

Highlight • Religious Site

Some of them have a shadowy existence hidden behind bushes or have even disappeared into rubble and soil. We are talking about small monuments, shrines or martyrs, as they are generally referred to in local usage. Crosses in different designs and pictorial representations of saints reveal the religious motivation for the establishment.

The very old church was probably built in the middle of the 13th century. It stands at the highest point in town and is probably the oldest building in Kürmreuth. In its origin it was probably built as early as the 12th century as the chapel of the former lord of the castle. Since 2010, the simultaneous church has been shining in new splendor after extensive interior and exterior renovation! The key can be received at the "Zur Post" country inn.

St. Nepomuk Schlicht

Highlight • Religious Site

At the end of the village square in Schlicht, the Johannes Nepomuk Chapel has stood on the Vils Bridge for more than two centuries. On August 28, 1728, a cloudburst with devastating damage transformed the Vilstal into a single lake. The then local pastor Johann Kaspar Neuhauser advised the frightened villagers to put their trust in the help of St. Nepomuk. The chapel was built in honor of the water saint Nepomuk in 1732 in only 42 days and inaugurated on November 4th. In 1923 the front facade was turned into a war memorial and in 1933 the chapel was renovated after a lightning strike. In the last days of the war in 1945 the church was damaged when the Vils Bridge was blown up. In 1947 it was built again and the front of the church was set back.

Marienkapelle Wickenricht

Highlight • Religious Site

A piece of land in the direction of Seiboldsricht is called the "Kapellenäcker". This fact suggests that there was a chapel before. The villagers banded together and built a Lady Chapel. It was inaugurated by Pastor Martin Schultes in 1997
