Stamsried Castle

Highlight • Castle

Stamsried Castle goes back to a castle, probably from the 11th century. From 1708 to 1710 the Stamsried Baroque Palace was built in its current form by Johann Adolph Graf von Metsch. Before that there was a wooden lock. At one corner is a round tower. At the rear a bridge leads over the moat that has been preserved at this point. The castle is privately owned. It can only be viewed from the outside. Next to it is the old castle brewery and the castle park with the Kraftweg natural pool. The area in front of the castle looks neglected, the grass is one meter high. There is a kind of moat in front of the entrance stairs to the castle. It is reminiscent of a construction site.

The Regental-Aue is one of the largest and most beautiful nature reserves
the Upper Palatinate near Cham. In Bavaria, the regental floodplain is one of the most important areas for the meadow breeders. So that you can really enjoy these natural beauties in an overview, a lookout tower offers a magnificent view over the entire floodplain landscape.

The area declared a nature reserve in 2010 covers 1427 hectares.
