Dolmens D21 and D22

Highlight • Historical Site

Dolmens D21 and D22 are located next to each other and are therefore also called twins. Dolmen D21 is not only the most photogenic, because of the large beech that stands directly behind the stones, but is also where most of the archaeological finds have been made.

A group of three other dolmens can be found a short distance away: D23, D24 and D25. There are also two burial mounds nearby.

Ode to the Sun Sculpture

Highlight • Monument

According to the sculptor Rob Schreefel, a picture must have a poetic content and be readable in or out of the form of the picture. In this sculpture, Rob was inspired on the one hand by the mythology and on the other hand by the shape of the stones and the history of the place / the environment. The sculptor had already noticed the large capstone of the statue 10 years ago. This big stone was in the land of a Franco-Breton peasant. This stone, it was then said, would one day serve as a sculpture for the sculptor. While exploring the place in the Schapenpark in 1999 and thinking of a landscape temple for this special place, the sculptor immediately remembered this stone in Bretange. Together, this heavy erosion stone (13 tonnes) was released from French soil and transported by Ron's truck to Ron's workshop. There, the stone was incorporated into the capstone of the sculpture "Ode to the Sun". The picture now speaks with the picture in this beautiful, wide and quiet place in the sheep park in Odoorn.

The Flint Route. Nice varied route. Despite following some well-known roads and paths from previous tours, we still saw and thought about many nice and beautiful "things". It was cold, so the thick coat on today.

Nice route with enough resting places. Only at Borger a path was taken too early.

We had planned to cycle from Valthe to the treetop path. But we had to stop constantly along the way because there were so many large stones lying around 😄, all of which wanted to be photographed.
And then we spontaneously visited the megalithic grave museum - highly recommended!
We only stopped at the treetop path for coffee and cake. …

Boulders are large boulders that are commonly encountered along this route. There are 18 megalithic tombs within a kilometer radius along the route. The smaller boulders were used for paths and roads. Near Borger, the “megalithic capital of the Netherlands”, the boulder route passes numerous forms of “megalithic art”. The route takes you to some of the geological, archaeological and …
