The port of Tromsø (Norwegian: Tromsø havn) is the largest port in Northern Norway. It is considered a transport hub for the Arctic region and is operated by Tromsø Havn KF, which in turn belongs to Tromsø Municipality. In Port Tromso you can watch the hustle and bustle in Norway's largest fishing and cruise port. The total length of its quays is over two km. In addition to cruise ships and freighters, the traditional Hurtigruten ships dock in the port of Tromsø on their journey north. The mail ships travel from Bergen, via Alesund and Geiranger, to Kirkenes.

Tromsø Harbour Warehouses

Highlight (Segment) • Historical Site

Tromsø had its great heyday in the 19th century. Many of the stately warehouses at the harbor and town houses were built, all made of wood.

The viewpoint is located directly in front of the Sherpatrappa. It offers a good view of part of Tromsø and the harbor area. Several benches invite you to linger before you climb the stairs to Storsteinen.

Best at sunset / sunrise and at night. Walk up is easy but plan at least one hour! Bring headlamps for descending. An alternative is the Fjellheisen cable car.

View of Tromsø

Highlight • Viewpoint

During the day and at night you have a wonderful view of Tromsø just a few steps from the hut.
This point can be reached on foot via the Sherpatrappa for sure-footed mountain hikers or by cable car.

Tromsø Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

From the Arctic Cathedral you have a great view of Tromsø and the harbor.
The walk over the bridge is worth it just for the view, rather than because of the cathedral ☹️

July 7, 2023,Tromsø Stadtzentrum - Tromsø Bridge - Arctic Cathedral - Fjellheisen - Tromsø Stadtzentrum
Very nice tour from the city center over the Tromso Bridge with a short stop at the Arctic Cathedral and then by foot (1203 steps) to the Fjellheisen (cable car saved about 45 euros per person ... as of 07/2023)

For my last night in Tromsø I decided to go up and see the midnight sun. Clouds made everything special, 1200 steps in the sherpa stair and nice people at the hill. And there is it 😊
Real time: 2h 57m.

I can only recommend that anyone who enjoys being in nature take the 1203-step climb up the Fjellheisen on foot via the Sherpatrappa.
You always have a magnificent view of Tromso.
When you get to the top, you are rewarded with a Norwegian beer for €12.

Short hike during a stop on the Hurtigruten on the local mountain Storsteinen to the mountain station of the Tromsø mountain railway over the Tromsø Bridge, past the Arctic Cathedral and over the Sherpa Stairs with 1203 steps. At 69 degrees latitude and just 20 degrees! Reward: an outstanding view!!

Was that an experience! We actually wanted to take the Fjellheisen (mountain railway) up Tromsö's local mountain, but it was closed due to strong winds. So we walked up the Sherpa stairs. Nothing was to be seen of the stairs, the path resembled a toboggan run. A crazy spectacle was playing out in the sky, which drove us further and …

The hike up the mountain is very difficult in winter. Not possible without spikes on the shoes.

But the effort is worth it when you get to the top and can enjoy the beautiful views of Tromsø along the way.

Last little tour in Tromsø before we drive the last 120 km east to the Lyngen Alps area, where we will hopefully be ready for our first ski tour tomorrow or the day after...

Now we are just waiting for our guide, who should have landed in Tromsø five minutes ago and will hopefully pick us up straight away...

Because my knee was giving out, we took the cable car up and down. 🤫
