August 18, 2023,Kap Arkona & nördlichsten Punkt Gellort & Fischerdorf Vitt
A very nice tour, started from Putgarten. Hiked to Cape Arcona to the northernmost point of Gellort. From there to the small fishing village of Vitt.
Great places, beautiful👍😎

From the parking lot (€8 by car 😯) in Putgarten, we head toward the lighthouse, Schinkel Tower, and the direction finder tower. Of course, I have to climb the lighthouse (another €3). The view is fantastic, over the blossoming fruit trees, the sunny rapeseed, and the turquoise Baltic Sea.

Such a beautiful tour. Even if it was very overcast, we were lucky and no rain.
It was not very busy and we had a lot of time to admire the great landscape. The view from the northernmost point of Rügen is great, but definitely even better when the view is clear. 🙂🙃

The destination was Gellort. The actually northernmost point of the island of Rügen, but also of the former GDR. It is about 500m from the cape, but well signposted. We like to go there when it gets dark. You have Cape Arkona all to yourself.

Another destination on Rügen was Cape Arkona. The weather wasn't supposed to be the best today, but rain wasn't forecast until the afternoon.
So we set off early and headed to the north of the island.
The hike there was OK, with beautiful views of the lighthouses every now and then. Once we got there, I naturally wanted to climb …

Today we went to Cape Arkona in glorious weather to see the bunkers there. And then on to the beautiful Vitt. And all of this with just a handful of visitors - a dream!

Cape Arkona is a 40m high chalk cliff in the north of Rügen and a magnet for visitors. We started at the parking lot in front of the cape and after a few minutes saw the 3 lighthouses that make this stretch of coast something special: the square Schinkelturm, the round New Lighthouse next to it and the Peilturm with …

A short, leisurely hike to Cape Arkona and back via the fishing village of Vikk.
Beforehand you have to: pay a parking fee, possibly pay to use the toilets, possibly pay for sightseeing, possibly pay for the bus..... and, and, and....
I am rarely as shocked as I was on Rügen. There is no free space here where you don't …
