Postbridge Visitor Centre, Dartmoor National Park

Highlight • Parking

The Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre is a great hub to start a walk from, or visit mid-hike.

There is a car park, public toilets and shop here, stocked with everything from maps to locally produced crafts, as well as a water refill station and lovely, friendly staff. There's also an exhibition with lots to learn for all ages.

Bellever Forest Gravel Roads

Highlight (Segment) • Forest

There are miles of wide, rolling and generally quite smooth fire roads in Bellever Forest to explore. These are bordered by mossy green banks and evergreen plantations, so good for mushroom hunting in the autumn!

If you're planning a short walk, you can find good facilities nearby in Postbridge at the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre, including parking, toilets, a shop and water refills. There's also a Forestry Commission car park in Bellever.

Bellever Tor

Highlight • Summit

Fantastic Tor with big views in all directions and cannot be mistaken due to the triangulation point on its highest outcrop.

I almost always hike in from the North, coming from Postbridge which is a nice steady climb all the way to the base of this beautiful Tor.

Also to be noted that the nice wide path allows pushchairs and I myself have pushed my 4 yo to the top of Bellever Tor so we could play on these rocks together.

Loughtor Man Standing Stone

Highlight • Monument

The Loughtor Man or Laughter Tor Standing Stone is most likely a Bronze aged terminal stone to what was once upon a time the complete double stone row that is situated close by.

It is the 8th tallest on Dartmoor at a height of around 2.4m and is very easily found on the hiking path to the Southern side of Laughter Tor itself.

East Dart

Highlight • Natural

The East Dart starts high on Dartmoor, near Whitehorse Hill and flows down to join the West Dart at Dartmeet.

This stretch south of Bellever Bridge is pretty and less moorland and bleak than some areas, it's also a bit more open than the tree lined stretches downstream. The river is lovely and clean, having only flowed across the moor.

Bellever Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Bellever Bridge is an ancient crossing that spans the East Dart River near Postbridge.

It's an idyllic location for a sit-down and picnic in a quintessential Dartmoor setting.

Postbridge Clapper Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

This is more a little stop along the way instead of a destination. It has two bridges that are pretty and a little shop. It would be a good starting point to hike onto the moor from as it has parking that has a donation box and allows overnight parking.
