Springorumtrasse

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Railway embankment converted into a cycle path - here you can ride on great surfaces like on rails! Roads run under bridges, so you can get through Bochum quickly and easily. Exemplary! 👍

Weitmar Castle Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The castle bridge is great. Below leads the Springorumradweg, which later becomes the coal railway.
Cross the bridge to Weitmar Castle and the park, which is also crossed by many cycle paths. From here you can drive in the direction of the city center, or in the direction of the Ruhr.

Dahlhausen Railway Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

A single-track bridge was opened at this location in 1874 for the Essen-Überruhr – Hagen-Vorhalle railway line of the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company from Altendorf (Ruhr) station, now Burgaltendorf, and Bochum-Dahlhausen. It was expanded to double track in 1927. The bridge was partially destroyed during World War II, and one track was not repaired until 1951. Following the temporary closure of the line and the removal of the tracks in 1991, the bridge is no longer used by the railway.

Ruhr River in Dahlhausen

Highlight • River

In the summer months, when the weather is good and there are no high tides, the driving here is fantastic. The cycle path is right next to the Ruhr and only a few ducks or geese might get in the way.

Dahlhausen Pontoon Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The floating bridge Dahlhausen is a pedestrian and road bridge over the Ruhr at the city boundary between Bochum and Hattingen. Its northeastern half lies in the Bochum district Dahlhausen, her southwestern half in the Hattinger district Dumberg. The road leading across the bridge connects Bochum via Hattinger Stadtgebiet with Essen's Burgaltendorf district and, via a branch, with the Hattinger villages of Dumberg and Niederwenigern. A first pontoon bridge at this location was opened in the spring of 1899. Previously, a ferry took over the transport of wagons and persons. The bridge was heavily damaged in the Second World War on 18 May 1943 (bombing of Möhnetalsperre) and only temporarily rebuilt. In 1959 they were finally replaced by the current bridge about 50 meters downriver.

Springorum Cycle Path

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The bike path has been re-asphalted, priority is given to almost all junctions, the trail is wide and well marked.

Once briefly shouldered the bike and you can reach the beautiful Springorum bike path, which leads through the middle of Bochum and ends after about eleven kilometers in Bochum Dahlhausen at the S-Bahn station on a short walk. From there it is a stone's throw to Ruhrtalradweg, so that you can start a nearly car-free tour in the middle of Bochum out.

The Springorum bike path follows the old railway line, so the climb is consistently moderate. Mostly it is paved, only the old, southern part just before Dahlhausen is only graveled.
