View of the River Elbe

Highlight • Viewpoint

No gravel, but not good asphalt... it is a view of the Elbe near Neu Darchau, but the point is wrongly positioned. It is actually near the former Alt Garge power station

Neu Darchau Marina

Highlight • Rest Area

Idyllic small marina that is well protected on the Kateminer Mühlenbach just before it flows into the Elbe. It is also a good starting point for tours in the area.

The Kateminer Mühlenbach is a tributary of the Elbe mainly in the north-western area of the Elbtalaue municipality in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony. The name comes from the location of the last mill before the confluence with the Elbe, the Katemin watermill, which was first mentioned in 1330. There were four other mills in the valley: the Tangsehler water mill, which can be visited, and the mills in Moislingen, Darzau and Quarstedt.

The approximately 12 km long creek in the catchment area of the Elbe flows in the area of the municipalities of Göhrde, Nahrendorf and Neu Darchau.

The source of the Kateminer Mühlenbach is at the Göhrde hunting lodge, west of the B 216. From there it flows largely in a northerly direction through Dübbekold, Nieperfitz, east of Pommoissel, through Tangsehl, Moislingen, Darzau, Quarstedt and Neu Darchau.
North of Neu Darchau, the Kateminer Mühlenbach flows into the Elbe.

The former inner-German border, lots of interesting information about history and life in the border region.
You can also see the inside of the former watchtower.
Also interesting is the former Kollonenweg, which is now part of the Elberadweg, which we cycle.

The remnants of a former coal-fired power station belonging to the HEW (Hamburgische Electricitäts-Werke), which was built here by forced laborers during the Second World War. The power plant was shut down in 1974 and demolished in 1987 and 1988.
