Barcaldine Castle

Highlight • Historical Site

Located on the peaceful shores of Loch Creran, Barcaldine is a stunning ancient castle which is now used as a hotel. Even if you don't want to stay the night it's an interesting place to explore from the outside, or grab a coffee.

The tower house castle was built by Sir Duncan Campbell at the beginning of the 17th century. According to legend, Sir Dunanc Campbell's ghost still haunts the castle, looking for the man who murdered him.

Great cycle lane that weaves through forest and onto the loch side. Much better option than the adjacent road which can get busy in summer.

Oban Distillery & Visitor Centre

Highlight • Monument

Oban Distillery is both one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and one of the smallest with just two pot stills. Pre-dating the town of Oban, it was originally established in 1794 by brothers John and Hugh Stevenson. It underwent a refurbishment in the 1890s and there has been little change to the present buildings since then. The distillery's tours offer visitors the chance to witness the traditional craftsmanship of whiskey production first-hand before enjoying complimentary drams of the Oban 14 year old West Highland Malt
