Brougham Hall

Highlight • Historical Site

Brougham Hall has lived a chequered life. At the time of the Norman Conquest it was in the hands of the Veteriponts, ancestors to the Cliffords. It was Lady Anne who oversaw the renovation of the hall in 1659.

However, the hall's alterations did not stop there and in the 19th century it became the residence of the Lord Chancellor of England, earning it the moniker of the 'Windsor of the North'.

Today there are some small shops and a cafe. There are plans afoot to open a museum and gallery.

Pooley Bridge (2020)

Highlight • Viewpoint

Pooley Bridge got a new bridge on 23rd October 2020! The new bridge is 128ft (39 m) in length and replaces the 18th-century stone bridge that was destroyed during Storm Desmond in December 2015. If you look closely you can see the names of people and businesses engraved along the bridge which helped raise money for the project.
