Saint-Léger Bell Tower

Highlight • Other

Little remains of this chapel built in the 17th century on the site where Saint-Léger lost his rosary. Erected on a cliff to the south of Saint-Valéry-en-Caux, 59 m above the sea, the chapel and especially its bell tower, 16 m high, served as a landmark for sailors. This function earned him not to be destroyed during the Revolution as was the nave of the chapel and to be maintained at the expense of the state. It was finally the German army which, on February 14, 1944, dynamited it on the orders of Marshal Rommel. Only two pillars and the chapel door remain.

Maison Henri IV

Highlight • Historical Site

A Norman house in ember wood dating from the Renaissance. Its first owner was Guillaume Ladiré, a wealthy owner from Saint-Valery-en-Caux. We can appreciate carved wooden effigies that represent exotic scenes inspired by trips to the New World. But following Henri de Navarre's stay in 1593, the house was renamed. Today, this residence which survived the bombings of the Second World War houses the Tourist Office and the Local History Museum. Maison Henri IV is open from Wednesday to Sunday and admission is € 2.

Highlight • Settlement

With a fishing and coastal shipping port, Saint-Valérie is a busy seaside resort. The well-sheltered harbor extends inland through a fairway. There is a dike promenade along the elongated pebble beach. (Michelin)

Veulettes-sur-Mer Sea

Highlight • Other

Hike along the largest pebble beach in the Pays de Caux and enjoy the view of the sea. This is one of the most popular beaches in the region, thanks to its long promenade and its many shops and restaurants . From the center of the village, you can access the beach on foot and admire the cliffs that surround it.

View of the cliffs at Veulettes

Highlight • Viewpoint

There are cliffs identical to those of the town of Étretat (about 40 km from Veulettes), encircling the beach. But, unlike Étretat, Veulettes beach is located in a large wild valley (with little construction), at the mouth of the Durdent. In 2005, the coastal conservatory acquired 10 ha of meadows in this valley, protected as classified sites for several years. This natural monument of the Durdent valley offers a spectacular panorama between sky, land and sea.
