Schönfeld Ski Area

Highlight • Rest Area

Spent a week here on a ski trip in March. ⛷️
On the first day, we skied the beginner's hill, which is perfect for people who have never skied before. There's an anchor lift, a platter lift, and a treadmill (I didn't know what it was called). The hostel across the street is okay, but don't expect a 5-star hotel.
Since we were only there in March, there was very little fresh snow, so we went to the Speiereck-Großeck ski area. There were blue, red, and black runs (see other highlights).
Overall, a nice slope near Schönfeld Thomatal in Austria👍🏻⛷️🥰

Dr. Josef Mehrl Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Mehrlhütte was built in 1935. It serves excellently as a lodge for tours to the surrounding mountains and also for a stop (the mountains taste so good). A few hundred meters away is the Schönfeld ski area, and the ski area in Innerkrems can also be reached by bus in a few minutes.

Donnerschlucht Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

A hike through the Donnerschlucht canyon is a real experience for hikers of all ages. On easily accessible paths and over some wooden bridges you follow the rushing Kremsbach. The Donnerschlucht connects Innerkrems with Schönfeld and is characterized by small waterfalls, rock faces and many flowers. At the northern end of the gorge you can stop at the Mehrlhütte.

In June 2012, the Lungau was designated by the UNESCO as "Salzburg Lungau Biosphere Reserve and Carinthian Nock Mountains", extending over the two Austrian provinces of Salzburg and Carinthia.

The recognition applies to an alpine landscape that is typical of the Central Alps, with peaks up to 3,000 meters high. In the 1,500 square kilometer area natural and man-made landscapes alternate.

Schönfeld Saddle Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

A narrow road over the Schönfeld saddle connects the villages Pichlern and St. Magarethen in Lungau with Innerkrems and Kremsbrücke in Carinthia. Even in midsummer is on this road little going on. The north slope leads from the Murtal into the Bundschuhtal and follows this through forests and past alpine meadows up to the small ski area on the pass. The south side leads first from Kremsbrücke with moderate slopes to Innerkrems. From the end of the village Innerkrems, double-digit percentage increases follow up to the highest point just before the border with Salzburg. In recent years, the road surface has been increasingly renovated, so that the area-wide potholes between the pass and Innerkrems belong to the past.
