Trail Signpost to Eremo di San Bartolomeo and Eremo Santo Spirito

Highlight • Trail

There is a guarded parking lot about 300 meters before this signpost. From here the path goes gently downhill at first, but a little further down there are some steeper sections. So it's not just a walk. The ascent in the midday heat made it difficult for some visitors.

View of the Santo Spirito Canyon

Highlight • Viewpoint

This is a fantastic viewpoint where you will be able to admire the whole valley. It's worth stopping here to breathe nature and tranquility, especially if you can enjoy the place in silence. After that, take a small picture and continue walking.

The hiking trail to the Hermitage San Bartolomeo is very well signposted. Some short sections of the trail are quite steep. The descent is usually quick, but the ascent in the blazing sun and midday heat made it difficult for a number of less experienced visitors.

Hermitage of Santo Spirito a Majella

Highlight • Religious Site

The Hermitage of Santo Spirito a Majella is a wonderful ancient mystical hermitage dating back to the 13th century with a significant history. It was founded by Pope Celestine V, who spent a lot of time there. The hermitage is very well preserved, unlike many others in the area. During the summer, it is open every day except Mondays. The rest of the year, it is only open on weekends.

May 27, 2025,🇮🇹 Eremo di San Bartolomeo - Eremo di Santo Spirito Majella, Runde von Macchie di Coco (Roccamorice, Majella Nationalpark, Abruzzen)
Today's hike starts in Macchie di Coco (Roccamorice, Majella National Park in Abruzzo).
The parking lot marked on our map is now closed. So we simply parked on the side of the road next to the entrance. Later, we saw that you can simply drive along the gravel road to the end; there's a large parking lot behind the restaurant …

The route is beautiful, we decided to park behind the restaurant. Parking is free and very large. Eremo di San Bartolomeo is beautiful, and Eremo Santo Spirito church entrance is free, the rest is paid 5 euros. It is worth it. The last part 5km is paved road but it flows quickly. I recommend
