Milchkannentor (Stągiewna Gate)

Highlight • Monument

The Milk Can Gate is a city gate on the Gdańsk Reservoir Island. The round bastions were built in the 15th century. The higher bastion is 28 m high, 13 m long, and its walls are 4 m thick. It is covered with a conical tiled roof. The lower bastion is only 10 m high and 8 m wide. It is covered with a flat pent roof. The towers were damaged in World War II. The Gdansk artist cooperative “Arpo” rebuilt it in the 1980s. At that time the towers were connected with a wooden gallery.

Brama Stągiewna

Highlight • Monument

The defensive towers, also called milk pots because of their shape, were built at the beginning of the 16th century and are remnants of the city's fortifications. At the beginning of the 17th century, the gate was rebuilt. During the siege in 1813, part of the gate was destroyed. In 1945, the interior burned down and the roofs collapsed. From 1972, the gate was used by the ARPO Workers' Cooperative of Polish Artists, which bought the complex in the 1990s. In 2012, the gate was sold. The area of the complex is 400 m².

The campsite has advantages and disadvantages: it is cheap and is located directly on tram lines 8 and 9, so you can be in the historic center of Gdańsk in 20 minutes. What a great city with so much history. If you're able to block out the crowds of tourists for a few seconds, it can be really beautiful and …

Gathered all my stuff in the pouring rain in the morning, unnerved by the never-ending banging from the festival next door. I'm too old for that shit and my rhythm is completely different. After all, a quick breakfast in the campsite summer kitchen. Then quickly out of Gdansk, after 9km it's raining so hard that I hang out on a …
