Weir and fish pass on the Glan River in Medard

Highlight • River

In 2008, the weir on the Glan was replaced by a rough ramp with the aim of restoring the Glan's traversability in order to guarantee migratory fish access to other sections of the water.

Lauterecken Primary School

Highlight • Monument

The former community school for Protestants and Catholics on Schulstrasse was built in 1901 in the neo-Baroque style. It was inaugurated on October 1st by the Lautereck pastor and school inspector Theodor Gümbel in the presence of the district president, Freiherr von Welser. He is still known today as the author of the book "History of the Principality of Palatinate-Veldenz". With the eaves facing Schulstraße, the sandstone ashlar building rises above a high base. A central avant-corps with a triangular gable emphasizes the facade of the three-storey building, which accommodates a total of nine classrooms.
The building is still used today as a primary school. The catchment area includes 18 local communities.

The confluence of the Lauter and Glan rivers was once the border between Prussia and Bavaria, later occupied by the French. Hard to believe, but today it is a very cozy place in the Palatinate.

From here you are quickly on various cycle paths and you can find accommodation without any problems.

One of the most striking buildings in Lauterecken is the former royal rent office, which was built in 1897/98 - a well-preserved example of Bavarian "authority architecture", which was also common in the Palatinate around 1900. The “Tax Office”, as the authority was later called, was dissolved in 1967. Today the police are housed in the building.

At the Lauterecken-Grumbach train station, the Lautertalbahn runs every hour to Kaiserslautern. You also have the option of taking the regional bus route in the direction of Staudernheim or Altenglan.

Information on the timetable at vrn.de

Lauterecken-Grumbach train station is the ideal starting point for many excursions and tours: the Glan-Blies cycle path from Sarreguemines to Staudernheim leads directly past the train station, the Lautertal cycle path to Kaiserslautern starts there. There are information boards for both cycle paths on the station forecourt. From Lauterecken, hikers can start on the Palatinate High Trail in the direction of Meisenheim and as far as Winnweiler, as well as on the Veldenz hiking trail that leads to Lichtenberg Castle. Lauterecken is also the start and finish point of the draisinenbahn (draisinentour.de)
