Union Mill

Highlight • Monument

Union Mill is a Grade I-listed smock mill and is one of the tallest of its kind in Britain. Built in 1814 by millwright James Humphrey, the grand timber-framed structure continues to grind corn to this very day. The mill is free to enter (a donation is requested). Union Mill, Cranbrook

Union Mill was built in 1814. It is England’s tallest working smock mill. . Four ‘patent’ sweeps drive one of the two remaining pairs of millstones.
The mill is a Grade I listed building and has been in the care of Kent County Council since its restoration in 1960. The mill is managed and operated by the Cranbrook Windmill Association.
