Schalksburg Viewpoint

an absolute must if you are up there. Not far to the left of the rock is a large hole in the ground, the Kundeloch .... According to legend, from here up a tunnel leads to the Wannental where he ends in the basement and was allegedly walled up decades ago.

Schalksburg Tower Ruins

Highlight • Castle

The Schalksburg, formerly also called Schaltzburg or Schalksberg, is a former hilltop castle, the ruins of which are located about six kilometers southeast of Balingen between the Albstadt districts of Burgfelden and Laufen an der Eyach. The Schalksburg is one of the largest castle complexes in terms of area on the Swabian Jura.

Felsenmeer (Swabian Jura)

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Felsenmeer is a living testament to the interplay of water, cold, heat, and the Jura limestone. In the middle of the forest, the enormous rock formations rise up for meters, creating a landscape that is as wild as it is bizarre in the dense forest.

The second and, in our opinion, most difficult part of the "Felsenmeersteig" has much more to offer than the previous one. On the tour, you are literally overwhelmed by wonderful impressions. We probably chose the opposite direction again, which made some sections quite difficult.

You can also omit the dangling to the Jäckbänkle. Instead, go straight to the Böllat. The way from Böllat to Schalksburg is probably nicer via the Albvereinsweg. Felsenmeersteig and Muliweg are absolutely great. But good shoes are necessary. Probably not completely harmless when wet.

What a great autumn day! 🌞
Every step was a real pleasure. 🙃

Unfortunately, the sun fought in vain against the clouds on this beautiful lap and there was also drizzle at the beginning. The highlights, which can be seen without end, made it easy to get over it. The great Felsenmeer and the Muliweg, which I walked for the first time, with u. a. a great vantage point. For this, the path …

Today I reversed and modified the tour to Schalksburg a bit.
When going down from the castle towards Burgfelden, a bit of caution is advised despite sure-footedness. It was beautiful nonetheless. 👌

A varied tour along the Albtrauf with many beautiful paths on parts of the Felsenmeersteig.

Start at the hiking car park near Pfeffingen, up to the Böllat and past Burgfelden to the Schalksburg ruins, of which only one tower remains.
Then a flat connecting section over to the Felsenmeer and steeply back up to the plateau via the Muliweg.
Now …

The original route was changed in several places and at the end we happened to get a short excursion to the old church in Burgfelden.

I spontaneously packed my backpack and headed to the Alb; since I'm planning a ride on my little bike tomorrow, I still wanted something on foot today 😉

The "Felsenmeersteig" trail near Albstadt is, in my opinion, the most beautiful in the Zollernalb 😃
Unfortunately, due to scheduling constraints, I had to shorten it a bit and skip the loop …
