Minnebron Spring

The Minnebron is a source managed by the Agency for Nature and Forests. This source is located near the chapel of Our Lady of Steenbergen, on the Zoet Water. People have been coming here to get drinking water since time immemorial. The water quality is checked and posted on a regular basis by the VMM. See also oud-heverlee.be/waterquality-minnebron

There are several sources here but this one has been used this way for a long time. Please note: it can be busy here with people queuing to fill bottles or even large water bottles. Can be reached via a small staircase and side road from the path to the chapel.

Chapel of Our Lady of Steenbergen and the Minnebron

1652: in the middle of the Meerdaalwoud, Lord van Steenbergen had a chapel built on the spot where a miraculous statue of Mary previously appeared. The statue heals people suffering from swamp fever. Pilgrims flock in. When the French revolutionary armies destroyed churches and monasteries in 1793, local residents were able to save the chapel. Even today you can visit this beautiful Baroque building with a 17th-century interior. With a floor size of 10 by 17 meters and a height of almost 15 meters, it is one of the largest chapels in Flanders. Nearby you will find the very old Minnebron, which has provided clear and pure drinking water since time immemorial. Miraculous healings are also attributed to the source.
