Church of the Madonna della Consolazione (Madonna di Gallo)

Highlight • Religious Site

Church of the Madonna della Consolazione (commonly called di Gallo)

I have not found a way to explain the common name of the Madonna di Gallo which is also called by this name in the Memoirs D ac. 17. See Municipal Archives. This stands near the Provincial Road Lauretana on a hill near the Village of Rigaiolo and perhaps two kilometers from Sinalunga.
It is a beautiful unfinished building in the shape of a Greek cross, only the rear arm in the Tribune has been covered. It is believed to have been built by Bishop Ma.a Gio: Batta dei Gori Pannilini bishop of Grosseto who around 1651. erected an office there with a deed drawn up on October 6. The Chancellor Grazzi in the Description of Sinalunga ac.11. speaking of the mid-August Fair that was held at this Church recalls it with the name Madonna di Gallo. (Consult the Municipal Archives).
1884.- At this time, the Municipality was threatened by an invasion of the choleric disease, and it was decided to reduce this Church to a lazaretto, but then, since it was an unfinished building that had to be covered and furnished, the project was abandoned and rooms were adapted in the Convent of S. Bernardino, which were then uninhabited, and which remained inactive because the disease did not come to God.
When Dr. Filippo Ghezzi's son-in-law took over the ownership of the ruined Church and the nearby farm called the Campana because the small Bell of the Church is located in the Farmhouse, this was restored by the new owner Mr.: Cav: Luigi Savelli in the part relating to the Tribune and officiated again. There is a terracotta bust of a certain artistic value.

Farnetella

Highlight • Settlement

Ring route that starts from a small country church which is found climbing towards Farnetella. Then we go into the woods until we reach the asphalt that connects Srofiano to Farnetella. Downhill it skirts an artificial lake and, again through the woods, leads back to the starting point about 6 and a half kilometers, also recommended for inexperienced!

Collegiate Church of Saint Martin

Highlight • Religious Site

The Collegiata di San Martino, in the center of Sinalunga, is an important church for the town's history. Externally, it presents simple lines, while the interior is richer, with various valuable works of art. It testifies to the religious and cultural life of the community over the centuries, remaining a landmark for the village to this day.

The tunnels of Sinalunga, built in the 13th century to channel water from the Pozzo di San Martino to the Fonte del Castagno, represent an important work of medieval engineering. Today they offer a suggestive underground route.
