The church of the Madonna di Costantinopoli built on the promontory and a few steps from the door of the ancient village has dominated the city and the tourist port for centuries.

Its construction certainly dates back to before 1583, when in that year the presence of a brotherhood was ascertained.

On the pediment of the church stands the inscription "Ave Stella Maris", a clear reference to the ancient Gregorian hymn inserted in the liturgy of the hours: in the Western tradition the name "Mary" was translated into "Star of the sea".

The building has a single nave with an adjoining bell tower.

Inside we find the statue of the Madonna of Constantinople which has a unique feature: in line with the eastern origin of the cult, in fact, the Virgin holds the Child on her left arm according to the Byzantine iconographic tradition.

In the adjacent building an epigraph of great historical importance is reused in the masonry EP (iscopu) S † [L] EONARDUS D (ominus) N (oster) (Bishop Leonardo our lord), which testifies to the probable burial in Agropoli of Leonardo, bishop of the diocese of Paestum.
