Wolfshagen Watermill

Highlight • Historical Site

The watermill was first mentioned in 1537. Until 1945, the Wolfshagen manor held ownership of the mill and leased it to miller families. The current mill building dates from 1790. In 1900 a turbine was installed and the mill was operated electrically using hydropower. In 1923 a second turbine was added. The turbines also supplied electricity to Wolfshagen.
They were dismantled in 1963. The mill operated as a pure grist mill until 2007, but it fell into disrepair. Today it offers a miserable picture. Although it is privately owned again, disputes with the authorities over water rights have so far prevented remediation.
