Two days earlier, I did the hike with my lovely wife.

She didn't want to do it again so quickly, though.

Time for me to experiment with a bit of video technology. I don't own a "wand" or a mega-editing program, but maybe I'll still like it.

At the small idyllic Vomonos Lake we let our souls dangle. There are also trout on the table here, which are farmed next door. Then we head into the gorge.

The path is constantly changing: sometimes in the river bed or high above it. Wooden bridges and stairs help. We still have no comparison with other Cretan gorges. Now, in …

After we had to cancel the tour last year because of an approaching thunderstorm, today was our second attempt to walk the gorge. The weather was good and we started at 9.30 am at Lake Zaros. In total, it took us 2 hours to get up, a 30-minute break and 2 hours to get back down. The actual gorge only …

Two years ago, I went up and down alone.

This year, with my better half.

It's really hard to describe something like this, but I'll give it a try.

Totally diverse.
An "Aha" or "Ohoo" behind every other bend.

The trail is quite challenging. Being relatively free from vertigo will definitely help at one point or another.

Important

maybe even for me inexperienced person.

Be sure to check the weather beforehand. When it rains, some stones get very soapy.

Otherwise:

up! It's worth it. The Hotel Elionas is a great place to park and start hiking from there.

Moderately difficult is putting it kindly. Some parts are tricky and a head for heights is often advisable. But the panorama is really worth seeing.

Unfortunately Komoot didn't record a few meters, but no matter. Wow what a path, incredibly strenuous for us and sometimes not without risk, as narrow paths, steep cliffs without protection. But we did it 👍🏻 and it was really worth it. Insane scenery... With my bad knees, I would definitely recommend trekking poles...

Great tour with oleander bushes in the gorge that naturally bloomed in October. Rugged rock formations, you should be sure-footed. At the end of the way there is a small chapel and a huge picnic area under Cretan oaks.
