Wenningstedt is one of the most popular holiday resorts on the island of Sylt, especially with families. The place is very centrally located in the middle of the island and offers a long list of sights.
The Braderuper Heide nature reserve is one of the natural attractions of the place. The unspoilt heathland borders directly on the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park, which is a popular destination for extensive mudflat hikes. The so-called “Denghoog”, a passage grave built over 5000 years ago in the Neolithic Age, is one of Wenningstedt's other attractions. The large accessible stone grave consists of twelve bearing stones that support a ceiling made of three stone slabs. It was opened in 1868 and has been open to visitors since 1928. The village pond in the center of Wenningstedt is also worth a visit! It is the place of calm. In order to maintain the village charm, the adjacent buildings are provided with thatched roofs. Another gem is the Frisian chapel on the village pond. The red brick Fries chapel is idyllically situated on the Wenningstedter village pond. It is the church of the northern villages. A special feature is the arched half-barrel ceiling with biblical images and symbols in the style of peasant painting. Another special feature is the Delft tiles, which are supposed to make the Friesenkapelle a place of well-being, the living room of God, based on traditional Sylt Frisian houses. This gives the chapel a real unique selling point. The tiles were handcrafted in Delft according to old templates. Wenningstedt is located on the edge of the dune landscape on the Red Cliff. The main tourist attraction is the long sandy beach below the cliff, which stretches the entire length of the place.

The Rote Kliff is unique on the coast of Germany, Denmark and Holland. As one of the most beautiful landmarks on the island of Sylt, the Red Cliff has always been a magical attraction for many visitors. As the name suggests, the specialty of the Roter Kliff is its red color. Especially the sunset turns the cliff into a bright red.

Red Cliff (Rotes Kliff)

Highlight • Natural Monument

One of the most popular destinations in Kampen is the Red Cliff. A 52-meter-high cliff stretching between Kampen and Wenningstedt, it has served as a landmark for sailors for centuries. Take a walk along the cliff and learn about its geological features. Even in the colder season, when the weather slowly cools down, such a walk in the iodine-rich sea air is beneficial. A visit at sunset is especially recommended, as it appears as if the cliff is truly bathed in red light.

March 2, 2024,Naturgenuss ☀️🌊🌾🐚 rund um das Rote Kliff ⛰️
The sound of the waves is balm for the soul. Almost endless space. The extent of the forces of nature can be clearly seen on the cliff. From the Uwe Dune the distant view glides over the island. Then a 🍺 in Uncle Johnny's Strandwirtschaft... a perfect day with 🌅 on the Westerland Promenade 🥰.

After arriving in Wenningstedt, we first fortified ourselves at Fisch Blum. Delicious food, better than at G. Then we headed to the North Sea at the Red Cliff. A stiff breeze today, but we're on the coast. We headed towards the dune path. Partly boardwalk, partly sandy. The wind also sandblasted the path. Past the Uwe Dune to the Sturmhaube …

From Kampen we went to Wenningstedt and back again.

There we walked along a hiking trail over sand and boardwalks and back along the beach. We passed the "red cliff," which today looked more like ochre.

Today's tour took me - again in hot weather - to the Red Cliff near Kampen. The pictures of the tour say more than 1000 words. It was just breathtakingly beautiful! First I walked the trail above the cliff. I then took my first break at Uncle Johnny's beach bar, which I can highly recommend. There I took a pleasant …

Furious finale ☀️☀️☀️ of an incredible week with steel blue skies, bright sunshine, almost no wind today (after a hurricane at the start of the week) & clear, cold air.

From Kampen over the Uwe Dune to Wenningstedt, and back on the beach at sunset along the Red Cliff, which is illuminated by it 🥰;
with a short detour to …

Fantastically beautiful panoramic path...☀️ 🐚👣
On the way there I walked directly on or in the water and back above the cliff over the wooden plank walkway 🤩

We took advantage of the wonderful weather again on Tuesday for a day trip to Sylt, Germany's second-largest island🏝️. We arrived comfortably and on time in Westerland by train, where we got a first impression of the ambiance of the North Sea island, which is exclusive by our modest standards😁. In front of the station, we were greeted by the …
