Saale Gate, Kahla

Highlight • Historical Site

It is the only remaining gate of the city fortifications. Its original appearance has been altered by subsequent renovations. It also houses the oldest stone depiction of Kahla's city coat of arms. Kahla is one of the few cities to feature a female dragon slayer in its coat of arms. Margaret, a martyr and Christian saint, is depicted in a victorious battle with the dragon (Satan). The coat of arms can be found in several places throughout the city.
