Otto Maigler Lake

Highlight • Lake

Lake Otto-Maigler is a lake in the city of Hürth in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia. It originated after the brown coal mining in a planned open pit mine hole. At the lake there is a beautiful outdoor pool with a sandy beach. Rowing, surfing and swimming take place here by the lake. The lake can be completely circumnavigated or explored by bike.

Wayside Cross in Naturpark Rheinland

Highlight • Religious Site

“Each of these crosses can tell its own story and what prompted people to erect “their” cross at this point. (...) These wayside crosses were erected as visible signs and attract the attention of many people. The cross is a symbol of life. It stands as a sign of our Christian hope and wants to direct our gaze to Jesus Christ, who has overcome death (...). The cross is part of our life as it was in the life of Jesus.
So I wish that many people … visit the crosses, whether as places of stillness and breathing space before God, whether as places for community gatherings, prayer and praise to God.”

Burbach Monastery

Highlight • Historical Site

Building complex from the 18th century - near the Otto-Maigler-See are the remains of the Marienbrunn Monastery, a former important Cistercian monastery founded in 1233. After the monastery was dissolved in the course of secularization in 1802, the monastery church and the actual monastery buildings were demolished. The outlines of the former monastery buildings are now marked by a hornbeam hedge.

Only a few former farm buildings have been preserved, including the so-called "Försterhaus", which houses the clubhouses of the Hürth swimming club and the Hürth disabled sports club.

Opposite the forester's house is a courtyard that emerged from the former monastery mill, the oldest parts of which probably date from the 18th century. A wayside shrine erected south of the farm barn by the Füngeling family, who leased it for many years, is intended to commemorate the former monastery

Today the residence and clubhouses of the SC Hürth and the disabled sports club e.V.
