Allenheads Village

Highlight • Cafe

Nestled in the high moors close to the border with County Durham, Allenheads is a quiet Northumberland village with plenty to attract lovers of the outdoors.

It has a lovely cafe, a walker-friendly inn and even has skiing facilities. There are some glorious walks on the moors and two nearby long-distance trails: the Lake to Lake Walk and Isaac's Tea Trail.

Long drag up through the forest out of Allenheads but then the summit with a long descent.

Hairpin Climb from Allenheads to Rookhope

Highlight • Trail

The road heading up onto Redburn Common from Allenheads (430m) in the west climbs through a steep hairpin bend and several shallower corners to reach an altitude of 533m. The descent down the otherside to Rookhope at just over 300m is more gradual and fun to ride.
Also good the other way with a longer steady climb and then a steep descent down to Allenheads, watch out for the tight corners and cattle grid on the descent if riding in this direction.

Faw Side Cairn

From the cairn at Faw Side, Allenheads looks splendid, nestled far below in the valley. The views across the open moorland to the north west are joyous. The Lake to Lake Walk long-distance trail passes by this way, on its way to Allendale.
