Greenwich Meridian at Hamsey Lane

Highlight • Structure

This sign marks the point at which the world's prime meridian, the Greenwich Meridian, crosses Hamsey Lane. The globally important Greenwich Meridian separates east and west, in a similar way to the way the equator separates north and south.

Hamsey Lane has less global significance than the Greenwich Meridian but it is better suited to riding a bike along.

Wealden Line Disused Railway Path

Highlight • Structure

The section of disused railway line between the old Barcombe Mills railway station and the Anchor Inn is open to cyclists and walkers and makes an alternative to the pub access along the road from Barcombe village, which would otherwise be a there and back again route. This alternative creates a nice circuit.

Unfortunately, not much of this line, which in its entirety ran between Lewes and Tunbridge Wells, is open to public access. Some of it is now the Lavender Line and Spa Valley heritage railway lines, in Isfield and Tunbridge Wells respectively.

Fletching is a really pleasant old Sussex village with many historical buildings, a couple of good pubs, village stores and a church. If you know where to look from, the village has some impressive views over Sheffield Park (and the Sussex Savannah), arguably some of the finest views in the county!

Great views from the garden, overlooking Sheffield Park, also known as the Sussex Savannah. The BBQ in the summer is particularly good.
