Ladybower Reservoir

Highlight • Structure

Ladybower is a large reservoir in the Upper Derwent Valley. The lake is surrounded by rugged upland, rolling farmland and majestic woodland, making it a wonderful place for myriad walks. When you climb above the reservoir, breathtaking views over the water await. The reservoir was built between 1935 and 1943. It was officially opened by King George VI in September 1945.

Bamford Moor

Highlight • Natural

Bamford Moor is an area of high moorland west of Ladybower and Bamford and east of Stanage. The high point is about 425m and it features some stone circles and a sighting tower built to help with the construction of the Rivelin Tunnel. Bamford Edge is a craggy outcrop to the west.

High Neb is the breathtaking summit of Stanage Edge. As you stand atop rugged rocks, the views over the Hope Valley, the moors and the gritstone escarpment stretching out before you are sublime. While the wind and weather can get a little wild, hiking here is always highly rewarding in any season.

High Neb Trig Point

Highlight • Summit

Not necessarily the highest point in the area, but surely one of the great views if the weather is good enough.

Stanage Edge

Highlight • Natural Monument

Stanage Edge is an awesome gritstone escarpment standing high above Hathersage in the Peak District National Park.

It's a very popular climbing destination with hundreds of routes up the steep, slabby and sometimes overhanging cliffs. If you walk along the top, you're likely to meet climbers and if you walk along the rougher path below the cliff you can watch them.

The trail along the top of the edge is well made and offers a few miles of excellent walking with great views. There is a trig point at White Path Moss at the eastern end and another slightly higher at High Neb to the west.

Bamford Edge — Rocky Outcrop

Highlight • Viewpoint

Far end of Bamford Edge where it's possible to circle around the big rocks whilst taking in the magnificent views across the valley. This part is often overlooked as there's no view of the Dams.

Bamford Edge consists of a set of rocks protruding from a towering hilltop in the Peak District National Park. The views from here are incomparable, feel ontop of the world as you gaze toward Ladybower Dam and the rolling countryside that surrounds it.
