Pilgrimage Church of St. Felix

Highlight • Religious Site

The St. Felix monastery church stands on a hill south of Neustadt, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view. The church was completed in 1746 and replaced a smaller chapel. Since 1735, the Felix Festival has been celebrated every year on the Sunday before or after May 18. Franciscan minorities of the Kraków Province now live in the convent building.

Felixbrünnerl

The small source with the large granite structure about halfway between the Schallerkapelle and the Felixkirche is usually only referred to as Felixbrünnerl. Officially it is the St. Felix grace fountain. The water supply used to be continuous. In recent years, the small basin has often been almost dry. The water, it was believed, should bring relief to eye ailments. Several cases of inexplicable help from the well are listed in the "Wonder Book of the Felix Church". The Capuchin Father Casius describes three miracles for the year 1734:

Cronwörthin Juliana Poppin had pain in her loaf and sore eyes. "She drank the St. Felixi Brindl water and washed her eyes, she'll be fine right away."

Wenz Wokatsch, clerk at Mr. Oberwürtschafter, had a swollen hand for four days. "Wash with the Brindlwasser running on the Felixweg, his hand will be healed."

The virgin Chatarina Dorothea, a wood turner from Neustadt, had red, fiery, painful eyes. "Call on St. Felix, wash your eyes at the St. Felix fountain, take such a water home, wash your eyes again at night with the Felix water, in the morning your eyes were fresh and healthy."

Mauermann Fountain

Highlight • Monument

Weiden sculptor Günter Mauermann created the fountain named after him from granite and bronze in 1985 and 1986. The fountain is designed as a picture arch with a veil of water, providing colorful insights into the town's history and Upper Palatinate customs. Its shape is intended to evoke the two gates between which the fountain is located.
