St John the Baptist Church and War Memorial, Tibshelf

Highlight • Historical Site

There has been a church at Tibshelf since the twelfth century though no trace remains of the original building. The oldest remaining part of the church is the tower which dates from the 15th century. Parts of the north aisle date from 1729. The chancel and south aisle date from 1910 after a fire destroyed that which had been built in the 18th century.

In the church yard are the graves of six local men who died in World War 1 and three who died in World War 2, as well as a war memorial with names of the fallen from the village.

Tibshelf Ponds

Highlight • Lake

Very pretty little picnic & fishing spot (permit required) with seating and a small car park. Situated at one end of the Five Pits trail where it intersects the Silverhill Trail near Tibshelf.

Silverhill Wood Lake

Highlight • Viewpoint

This lake is a picturesque rest stop on a bike ride, especially scenic in spring with blooming wildflowers. It's thought to be the highest point in Nottinghamshire, and has a wide gravel track going through for easy access.

Silverhill Miner Statue

Highlight • Monument

Not too bad incline. Go anticlockwise! Fabulous panorama views from the monument.

A 4km or so gravel loop around the woodland but it’s far from flat, the statue of the miner on the viewing platform at the top (albeit man-made) is the second highest point in Nottinghamshire

The Miner Statue

Highlight • Monument

I once rode here on my mtb years ago from Chesterfield along the Five Pits Trail on a day very similar to the weather when I did this hike. I forgot how good the views are from the sculpture, breath taking :) Bring some sandwiches and a drink and enjoy the view.

Teversal Station

Highlight • Trail

The remnants of the old station platform, a reminder that these trails used to be railway lines
