Cwmorthin Falls

Highlight • Viewpoint

Car park gets full up top so park sensibly park close to next car gives more space for others. Don’t park in front of gate as this is used by farmer Go Below and mountain/cave rescue. More parking available at bottom of hill.

Cwmorthin Slate Mill

Highlight • Historical Site

Cwmorthin Slate Quarry is an impressive area, a magical hanging industrial valley above Tan y Grisiau that highlights Wales' industrial heritage with its massive works and ruins. It was in operation between 1810 and 1939 and has five different underground levels which were serviced with extensive trackways and machinery. Many of the surface buildings, such as the slate mills, can still be seen. If you are a photographer, this is the place to come in the early summer light or the cold winter mist.

Rhosydd Chapel Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

The haunting remains of the chapel that used to serve the men who worked at the Rhosydd Quarry. It makes for a stunning foreground for your photographs. This area is peppered with remains of the slate mining industry's infrastructure.

A poignant vestige of the area’s slate mining heritage. These mines produced around 200 million slates from the 1830s until the beginning of the 20th century. Conditions for the workers, who lived on site during the week, were grim. Average life expectancy was just 44 years. What remains today is a mixture of the barracks and workhouses.

Cnicht Summit

Highlight • Natural Monument

Nicknamed the Welsh Matterhorn, albeit 12,431 feet (3,789 m) lower than its Swiss counterpart, what Cnicht lacks in height it makes up in shapely attractiveness. It is a fantastically pointy, fin-like peak with an irresistible allure. Rising proudly above the hamlet of Croesor, it is the best of the Moelwynion range by far.

Rhaeadr Ogwen (Ogwen Waterfall)

Highlight • Waterfall

You can drive almost directly to the waterfall by car. The car park is a popular starting point for hikes, even higher up.
