View of the Lake at Dinton Pastures Country Park

The pontoon looks inviting, but stepping on it feels… wrong. Like there might be a claymore wired just past the “no entry” sign. Still, the view over the lake as the sun drops is solid. Serene, even.
Main hazard here isn’t infected—it’s wildfowl. Geese, ducks, maybe mutant swans. Droppings everywhere. Biohazard levels questionable. Footwear strongly advised. Some paths could do with a daily pressure wash—or a visit from a hazmat team.
Still, if you’re passing through and need a place to breathe, this spot does the job. Just keep your back to the water. And don’t feed the birds.

The convenient car parks (parking charges apply, see dinton-pastures.co.uk/plan-your-visit/parking-and-location/), which can fill up especially at weekends when the weather is nice, make it a good place to meet as a group (pandemic restrictions allowing) and start/end a bike ride on the outskirts of Reading.
Incidentally, this is where the friendly "Dinton Sky Ride" group (facebook.com/groups/409137742582442) meet to start their rides, well worth joining if you are looking for company and new routes in the area!

On the back of the building you can find clean public toilets here too, and if you're up for a hike or for an easy ride off-road the trails around the lake in Dinton Pastures Country Park are just a stone's throw away.
If you are driving there to meet your riding or walking buddies, bear in mind that the car parks close in the evenings and if your car is locked having the gates unlocked will cost you. Oh, and parking charges apply too.
