Lahnwiesen — side arm of the Lahn

Highlight • River

A nice little place, right on the Lahnwiesen in the southern district. Further up there is a bench that invites you to linger.

From the wooden bridge you have a beautiful view over the Lahn and the old town of Marburg.
As records show, the Hirsefeldsteg in Marburg was only built in 1913. There had already been wooden footbridges over the Lahn before that. The creation of the Hirsefeldsteg at the beginning of the 20th century is ultimately thanks to a private donor initiative. and soon the footbridge was transferred to the city of Marburg along with the maintenance costs.
This bridge only had a 1.5 m passage and was replaced in 2010 by a new bridge with a 3.5 m passage.

The Grüner Mühle is a water mill formerly used as an oil mill and paper mill on the Grüner weir below the Weidenhäuser bridge in Marburg an der Lahn on the edge of today's southern district. In addition to the "Green Gate" at the southern end of the street "Am Grün", the historic waterfront of Marburg with small-scale houses directly on the banks of the Lahn, this was the southern outskirts of the city before the expansion of the city with the southern district, which was built in around 1880. The mill was first mentioned in documents in 1248.

The Weidenhäuser Bridge is the oldest Lahn bridge in the central Hessian city of Marburg. The first stone bridge over the Lahn stood at this point as early as the middle of the 13th century. In the Middle Ages it was called the City Bridge or Long Bridge. Today's 4-span arch bridge made of sandstone dates from 1892. It connects the western old town with the eastern district of Weidenhausen and is still one of the most important traffic arteries in Marburg. Completely renovated in 2019.
