View from Amberley Mount

Highlight • Viewpoint

Amberley Mount is a very steep off-road climb if you are travelling on the South Downs Way from west to east, which is generally the preferred direction for the long distance route. It has fantastic views to the north and west, overlooking Amberley and the Arun Valley, so worth the effort on a good day.

View from Amberley Mount

Highlight • Summit

The summit of Amberley Mount is around 660 feet (200 m) above sea level, and offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Isle of Wight to the south and the North Downs to the north. It's one of the toughest climbs on the South Downs Way (from west to east).

There's a gate off the main path leading to an open grassy area where you can stop for a picnic and admire the views over Amberley Brooks.

This is part of the South Downs Way, and it is, as most of it is, stunning, with clear views down over pristine countryside and nearby Amberley.

The village of Burpham is built on the side of Perry Hill to avoid the risk of flooding from the River Arun.

Next to St Mary's Church is a grassy viewpoint with benches overlooking the Arun valley. It's a peaceful spot with beautiful west-facing views, offering an ideal location for watching the sunset.

Just around the corner is The George pub, a 17th-century gem in the heart of the village.
