Gnötzheim

Highlight • Settlement

Gnötzheim is a district of the municipality of Martinsheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen.
The village was created at the time of the Franconian expansion of the country. The place name refers to a Franconian noble Gnoz who lived here.

The parish church of Gnötzheim was built in the 12th century. In 1340 the knights of Seinsheim ruled the village. In 1352, the town received market rights from Charles IV. From 1468, Gnötzheim became the ancestral seat of the Lords of Rosenberg, and the church became the family burial place. When the noble family died out, the Counts of Schwarzenberg received the village and castle.

In 1810 Gnötzheim came to Bavaria as a rural municipality, in 1972 Gnötzheim came from the Middle Franconian district of Uffenheim to the Lower Franconian municipality of Martinsheim.

The Treuchtlingen–Würzburg railway is a double-track, electrified main line in Bavaria. It runs from Treuchtlingen in southern Middle Franconia via Gunzenhausen, Ansbach, Marktbreit and Ochsenfurt to the Lower Franconian district capital of Würzburg.
The route originally consisted of three shorter routes:

The route from Ansbach to Gunzenhausen, opened on July 1, 1859,
the route opened on July 1, 1864 from Würzburg to Ansbach[6] and
the route from Gunzenhausen to Treuchtlingen, opened on October 2, 1869.
The route is 140.2 kilometers long. Of what used to be 29 stations and stops on the way, 15 are still used for passenger transport today.
Passenger traffic in Gnötzenheim ended in 1978.
