The Château de Meslay is a neoclassical masterpiece where you can admire the architecture of the castle, which was built in the 18th century by Jules Michel Alexandre Hardouin, a royal architect. You can also learn about the history of the castle, which was visited by famous people such as Henri IV, the d'Argenson family and Germaine de Staël. Saint-Calais Church

Highlight • Other

In Meslay I came to the castle Meslay, which was built in the years 1732-1735. Since 2017 it is a monument historique. From there you can already see the church in the village: Saint-Calais, built in 1734.

The church as well as the castle as well as the older buildings in the village were built by Jean-Francois de La Porte, lord of Meslé, in the 1730s. During the siege of Vendome in November 1589, King Henry the Fourth had settled here.

In 1731 the lord also founded a textile manufactory for carpets and cloths. This was abandoned in 1865.

In the church, modern - partly naïve painting - representations of the Bible have emerged, with reference to the Song of Songs, the Apocalypse and other significant passages.

The artists Jean-Claude Ferron and Pierre Petot have created these paintings since 1988 to 1996, partly in Byzantine tradition.

These frescos are impressive.
