Wooden boardwalk along Schwarzsee

Kitzbühel Church Hill
The parish church of St. Andreas, located on the church hill at the foot of the Lebenberg, was consecrated in 1506.
The Church of Our Lady on the church hill outside the historic city center was built in the 14th century as a two-story chapel, the basement of which served as an ossuary. It only received its characteristic 48 m high, massive tower between 1566 and 1569.
The Hospital Church is a late classicist, barrel-vaulted building. Inside is the altarpiece by Simon Benedikt Faistenberger (The Holy Trinity, around 1740) and the almost life-size, colorful group "Our Lord on the Stairs".

Kitzbühel Old Town

City with history: A day in Kitzbühel
It has been 750 years since Kitzbühel was granted city rights.
What do you think of when you hear Kitzbühel? Of course, the Hahnenkamm race on the Streif, the stars and starlets who like to show up in the chamois city, elegant shops and fine restaurants. But that is by no means all that Kitzbühel has to offer: a visit to the "Stadtl", as the locals affectionately call their city, proves this. Kitzbühel is full of history, culture and has always been way ahead of its time.
Because Kitzbühel was on the busy trade route from Chiemsee over the Felbertauern to Venice in earlier times, travelers have always been part of the city. That has not changed to this day: Kitzbühel is a sports and lifestyle metropolis and attracts visitors from all over the world. And today, me too! "If you're here for the first time, you don't feel the need to rush out of the city straight away, but want to stay for a while. It was like that 100 years ago, even then people were strolling here," says Pepi Treichl. The 70-year-old is a Kitzbühel veteran and city guide. My city exploration tour begins with him. During an extensive tour, he tells me why mining, art and an old prison in the middle of the city are just as much a part of Kitzbühel as the Streif.

Kitzbühel Town Hall

Highlight • Historical Site

Kitzbühel Town Hall from 1531
Kitzbühel was granted town rights by Ludwig II in 1271.
The building dates from 1531 and was converted into a town hall in 1548. The "Neutor" (now called "Kirchberger Tor") was built around 1840. The current building was built in 1954/55. Near the entrance there is a relief (by Franz Roilo) in memory of the ski pioneer and mayor Franz Reisch, who founded the winter sports resort of Kitzbühel in 1892/93.
