Pian dei Buoi Plateau

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Pian dei Buoi plateau represents a real landscape pearl of very high value, renowned throughout the Dolomite environment. The naturalistic value is amplified by the nearby presence of the Natura 2000 protected area, called "Marmarole, Antelao, Sorapis". The plateau also acquires extraordinary value from the widespread presence of artifacts from the Great War which, together, constitute the Parco della Memoria of Pian dei Buoi, and which have their most solemn representation in the forts of Col Vidal.

The four rings that make up the thematic / hiking trails and the church of the Madonna del Ciareido should also be mentioned, without forgetting the Baion-Elio Boni and Ciareido refuges (1969 m).

HOW TO REACH PIAN DEI BUOI
The narrow military road of the Genius begins upstream of the town and goes up the left side of the Val Longiarin for about 13 km with short stretches of dirt road. In the summer period (from 1 July to 31 August) access is regulated by the alternating direction of travel: only ascent 9.00-13.00, only descent 14.00-17.00, both directions in the remaining times.

July 19, 2025,Laggio di Cadore- rifugio Ciareido - Auronzo
Starting from Laggio, after reaching Lozzo di Cadore, the approximately 1,000-meter cemented climb towards Pian dei Buoi begins. Although the elevation gain is not to be underestimated, the gradient is constant.
Once you reach Pian dei Buoi, the forest road steepens significantly, but fortunately only for a short stretch until you reach the refuge.

This is another challenging and very rewarding ring in the heart of the Marmarole.
It starts from Domegge, near the church. Take the mule track that is part of the crossing of the center of Cadore (follow the tracks) until you enter the state road towards Auronzo. You pass through Lozzo di Cadore (road with little traffic) then again state …
